Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine has triggered the biggest disruption to the world economy in half a century.  In this talk, Benjamin Cohen will explore the series of immense shock waves that have fanned out across the globe from the battling combatants themselves, Ukraine and Russia, to the European Union, the United States, and beyond.  Economic damage will be major and long-lasting, including inflation, threats to energy security, and famine.  Some nations, such as energy exporters, will emerge as winners, while many others, including especially food importers, will suffer from starvation and political upheaval.  Dramatic geopolitical repercussions can be expected, and questions will be raised about the future of the global economic order.
