View map Free EventDirected by Professor Scott Marcus, the UCSB Middle East Ensemble will present an exciting evening of music and dance reflecting the great diversity of cultures found in the Middle East on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 7:30 pm in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall on the UC Santa Barbara campus. In celebration of Persian New Year, the program will feature an unprecedented number of guest artists performing Persian (and Turkish) music, and dance from Uzbekistan:
Mehdi Kolahdooz (Persian vocalist);
Siamak Pouian (Persian percussionist);
Mohammad Nejad (Persian multi-instrumentalist);
Isabella Goze (Turkish vocalist);
Gulistan Dance Theater (Uzbek Dance company);
Carolyn Krueger (solo dancer and Director of Gulistan Dance Theater);
Ron Wagner (Uzbek percussion).
In addition, Seif Ibrahim (vocal) will present a song by the famous Sa‘udi singer Muhammad ‘Abduh, and Hani Zewail (vocal and ‘ud) will present a beloved Farid al-Atrash song. And, as always, our Dance Company will present an exciting variety of dances, this time from the eastern Arab world, with Javid John, vocalist
