ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Annmarie Fan is a third-year Chemistry major and Music minor from the Sacramento area (Elk Grove!). She mostly plays piano and euphonium, and over the last two years has participated in UCSB Wind Ensemble, Pops Orchestra, and IV bands. Outside of music, Annmarie loves playing beach volleyball and just started learning to surf over the summer. Her interest in carillon began when she happened to be on campus one Sunday in her freshman year and heard a carillon performance. Hearing something other than the hourly bell tolls being played was really cool, and when she found out that students had the opportunity to learn this instrument, she immediately wanted to apply. Annmarie is super stoked to have the chance to learn the carillon! This is her second quarter studying the carillon.

Rose Gallagher is a first-year Cello Performance major from Santa Monica, California. She participates in several other ensembles at UCSB: the Chamber Orchestra, the Ensemble for Contemporary Music, and a string quintet. She developed in interest in studying the carillon because she enjoys learning and learning about less common instruments and decided to audition when she saw that there were open spots in the carillon studio. Outside of music, Rose enjoys playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and Deltarune. This is her second quarter studying the carillon.

Junrui Liu is a fifth-year computer science PhD student. His main instrument is the organ if he chances upon one to practice on, and piano otherwise. He took lessons for the former instrument in college, and has performed for recitals and services. Junrui became interested in the carillon for its fascinating sound signature and unique method of playing. When not practicing, Junrui enjoys playing badminton or watching owarai. This is Junrui’s third year studying the carillon.

Julia Ong is a second-year Materials PhD student and she is from the San Francisco Bay Area. Her main instrument is piano, which she has been playing for more than ten years and performed for recitals and charity concerts. Julia is studying carillon because she wants to explore instruments besides piano to continue her music studies. She is also interested in the history and repertoire of the carillon because it is a unique combination of bells and keyboard. Other musical instruments Julia plays include the recorder and the ukulele. She also enjoys tap dancing, reading fantasy fiction, and playing board games. Julia has passed the Associate Carillonneur Examination of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America and this is her fifth year studying the carillon.

Pratyush Rallapally is a third-year student majoring in Biology and Statistics from Dublin, California. A cellist since childhood, he has performed with various ensembles, including the Oakland Youth Symphony Orchestra and Sycamore Chamber Orchestra. His musical journey has taken him to venues across the San Francisco Bay Area, even performing the national anthem for the Oakland Athletics. He continues to play the cello in numerous groups at UCSB. In addition to the cello, he plays the ukulele and the otamatone. His interest in studying the carillon stems from its storied history and uniqueness, and he is eager to expand his musical repertoire. Outside of music, he enjoys longboarding, watching Saturday Night Live reruns, and listening to K-pop. This is Pratyush’s second year studying the carillon.

Ryan Stenberg is a third-year Economics and Accounting major and Music minor from Palos Verdes Estates, California. He mostly plays electric guitar, bass, acoustic guitar, and piano in his spare time. Ryan’s favorite genres to play are shoegaze, metal, and alt-rock. He loves backpacking, spending days and nights under the stars in the backcountry when he doesn’t have his hands on a stringed instrument. When Ryan found out that there was a class to learn to play the carillon in Storke Tower, he knew he had to try to take it! This is Ryan’s second quarter studying the carillon.
