You are invited to join us for the first event in a new Wildfire Prevention and Policy lecture series that UC Santa Barbara is launching this fall. The series will kick off on Thursday, November 4th from 3:30-5 pm featuring a discussion by Stephen Pyne on "The Pyrocene, America Between Three Fires." The presentation and discussion will take place on Commencement Green, with a reception to follow at the Student Resource Building courtyard.

The event is free and open to the public.

Stephen Pyne is a fire historian, urban farmer, and emeritus professor at Arizona State University. In a former life, he spent 15 seasons with the North Rim Longshots at Grand Canyon National Park. Among his recent fire books are Between Two Fires: A Fire History of Contemporary America and The Pyrocene. How We Created an Age of Fire, and What Happens Next.

UC Santa Barbara is closely monitoring COVID-19 and how it will impact our live events. For indoor events, masks are required at all times, no matter vaccination status. For our outdoor events, vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks.
