DESCRIPTION:A piano masterclass\, in collaboration with CAMA\, to be given 
 by the distinguished pianist Yefim Bronfman in Geiringer Hall on Friday\, 
 May 19 at 2:00 pm.\n\nInternationally recognized as one of today's most ac
 claimed and admired pianists\, Yefim Bronfman stands among a handful of ar
 tists regularly sought by festivals\, orchestras\, conductors and recital 
 series. His commanding technique\, power\, and exceptional lyrical gifts a
 re consistently acknowledged by the press and audiences alike.\n\nHis 2022
 -2023 season included summer festival appearances in Verbier and Salzburg\
 , a tour with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozena\, and performances with the C
 hicago\, Pittsburgh\, Pacific\, Madison\, Toronto\, and Montréal symphony
  orchestras\; the Houston\, New World\, and New Jersey symphonies\; the Ne
 w York Philharmonic\, and The Philadelphia Orchestra. In Europe\, he also 
 tours with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and appears with the Berli
 n Philharmonic\, Bayerischer Rundfunk (Munich)\, Bamberg Symphony\, Staats
 kapelle Dresden\, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino\, and Zürich Philharmonic.\n
 \nMr. Bronfman works regularly with an illustrious group of conductors\, i
 ncluding Daniel Barenboim\, Herbert Blomstedt\, Semyon Bychkov\, Riccardo 
 Chailly\, Christoph von Dohnányi\, Gustavo Dudamel\, Charles Dutoit\, Dan
 iele Gatti\, Valery Gergiev\, Alan Gilbert\, Vladimir Jurowski\, Zubin Meh
 ta\, Riccardo Muti\, Andris Nelsons\, Yannick Nézet-Séguin\, Sir Simon R
 attle\, Esa-Pekka Salonen\, Jaap Van Zweden\, Franz Welser-Möst\, and Dav
 id Zinman. Summer engagements have regularly taken him to the major festiv
 als of Europe and the United States. Always keen to explore chamber music 
 repertoire\, his partners have included Pinchas Zukerman\, Martha Argerich
 \, Magdalena Kožená\, Anne-Sophie Mutter\, Emmanuel Pahud and many other
 s. In 1991 he gave a series of joint recitals with Isaac Stern in Russia\,
  marking Mr. Bronfman's first public performances there since his emigrati
 on to Israel at age 15.\n\nWidely praised for his solo\, chamber and orche
 stral recordings\, Mr. Bronfman has been nominated for six GRAMMY Awards\,
  winning in 1997 with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic f
 or the three Bartók piano concerti. His prolific catalog of recordings in
 cludes works for two pianos by Rachmaninoff and Brahms with Emanuel Ax\, t
 he complete Prokofiev concerti with the Israel Philharmonic and Zubin Meht
 a\, a Schubert/Mozart disc with the Zukerman Chamber Players and the sound
 track to Disney's Fantasia 2000.\n\nAdditional recordings include the GRAM
 MY-nominated Magnus Lindberg Piano Concerto No. 2 commissioned for him and
  performed by the New York Philharmonic\, conducted by Alan Gilbert on the
  Da Capo label\; Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 with Mariss Jansons and
  the Bayerischer Rundfunk\; a recital disc\, Perspectives\; and recordings
  of all the Beethoven piano concerti as well as the Triple Concerto togeth
 er with violinist Gil Shaham\, cellist Truls Mørk\, and the Tönhalle Orc
 hestra Zürich under David Zinman for the Arte Nova/BMG label.\n\nBorn in 
 Tashkent in the former Soviet Union\, Yefim Bronfman immigrated to Israel 
 in 1973\, where he studied with pianist Arie Vardi at the Rubin Academy of
  Music at Tel Aviv University. In the United States\, he studied at The Ju
 illiard School\, Marlboro School of Music\, and the Curtis Institute of Mu
 sic\, under Rudolf Firkusny\, Leon Fleisher\, and Rudolf Serkin. A recipie
 nt of the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize\, one of the highest honors given
  to American instrumentalists\, in 2010 he was further honored as the reci
 pient of the Jean Gimbel Lane prize in piano performance from Northwestern
  University and in 2015 with an honorary doctorate from the Manhattan Scho
 ol of Music. Mr. Bronfman serves on the Curtis Institute of Music faculty\
 , where he holds the Neubauer Family Chair in Piano Studies.\n\nPhoto cour
